2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Escambia County finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Escambia County finished sixth in Class 5A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Blue Devils have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Escambia County averaged scoring just 10.2 points a game. The Blue Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Escambia County has gone a combined 21-42. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 4A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Escambia County has not won much with a record of 83-177. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 4A and 333rd in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Royce Young who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 2-18 over the past two seasons at Escambia County. The Blue Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Young. Coach Young's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-six season stands at 94-174 (35.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Young's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won two region championships. If Escambia County can win six games this season, Coach Young will reach the 100 win milestone. The Escambia County Blue Devils will play in Class 4A region one during the 2016 season. The Blue Devils may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region one this year. Region one will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. This season, the Blue Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. The Blue Devils open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilcox Central on Friday, August 26 at Camden Field. Last year the Wilcox Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 5A region four. The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a loss to Jackson by a score of 41-0. Escambia County and Wilcox Central have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 10-3-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2013 with Wilcox Central winning by a score of 14-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
